What Do You Do If You: Falling Up?

October8

“Falling Up”

I tripped on my shoelace
And I fell up-
Up to the roof tops,
Up over the town,
Up past the tree tops,
Up over the mountains,
Up where the colors
Blend into the sounds.
But it get me so dizzy
When I looked around,
I got so sick to the stomach
And I threw down

I laugh so hard when I first read this poem. That was one of my early encounters with Shel Silverstein, an artist. I consider him one, because each and every poetry project that he created has turn into some art form in my eyes. “Falling Up” for instance, grap me immediately. He uses opposite term in this poet, people usually fall down not up, and the ending is just right when he said: I threw down instead of threw up! Hilarious…Another thing, he actually made the poet and also the drawing in his book, and he made it in a funny and entertaining form. At least in his book Falling Up.

Love for Shel has brought me to his collection, thanks for my dear friend Rama who one day give the full set as a get well soon gift. Thank you Rama, love the set. It kept me smiling although I’m lying there in the hospital bed.

Anyway this book, Falling Up has some funny poems.  Its fun as a bed time stories, friend when you sit in the garden at one afternoon, or just simply sipping coffee or tea. I might suggest this reading for kids, but as an adult, I find this book witty enough to charm me. Keep me flipping every page with an exiting anticipation. Would not have guessed that a poetry book could keep me amuse.

Curious what Falling Up might look like? Here’s the book:
